Creating business solutions to poverty
MEDA is an international economic development organization whose mission is to create business solutions to poverty! Founded in 1953 by a group of Mennonite business professionals and partnering with the poor to start of grow small to medium sized businesses. MEDA's headquarters are in Waterloo, Ontario where they are coordinating projects all around the world.
As a local chapter, we are supporting the work MEDA does through education and fellowship within our local community.
MEDA Project Highlight
Greater Rural Opportunity for women (GROW)
Project Location: Northern Ghana
Project Length: 2012-2018
Reaching: 20,000 women farmers and their families
We would like to highlight MEDA's GROW project in Ghana, West Africa. The GROW (Greater Rural Opportunities for Women) Project focuses on improving food security for families in Northern Ghana. Working with the women of the communities to grow more soybeans and forge market links that will increase incomes. The beans are a good source of protein in the family diet and the nitrogen fixing action this legume helps build soil fertility.
